A Unit Win!

We did it!

Well the last 3 days have been so fun! Crazy and at times anxious? Yes. Butohmygoshwedidit!!! We successfully defended our title as a Premier Club unit. What made it so fun, was that I had the opportunity to watch women be empowered as they went after goals they really weren’t sure they could finish, but they hustled and invested their time and energy as if they knew for certain. I got to watch other people in their lives rally to help them finish. Have you ever been a part of something like that. Community is a powerful force.

So in the past six months, we started this journey right after Kara debuted her unit and we were left with half our unit size, the smallest we had ever been, and much smaller than most units in the the Premier Club. In six months we grew our unit back to our original size, moved up to the #4 unit in the Leah Lauchlan National Area, requalified to be a Premier Club unit and specifically this past month we had Sam Apperson move into the star team builder position and Barb Caito and her team moved into her Director-In-Qualification process!

And to represent our unit, I am so thankful to drive the NEW 2013 Chevy Equinox! Thank you for the opportunity!! Wow, 3 cars in 3 years. Who would have guessed?!

What I am really excited about is that, in Leah’s words, we are “primed and ready to go into Cadillac realm.” Our hard work put us in a position where we can run through the finish line tape (that being June 30, the end of the seminar year) and move right into Cadillac Unit status. That’s where the most perks are experienced at seminar. I have an entire post to share about that, so for today let’s celebrate us, Sam, & Barb!!

When You Don’t Know, Just Go

Have you ever wanted to move forward in your business, but you didn’t know what exactly you wanted to move towards? For some, the amount of income desired is clear. Some know they want to move up the career path to the red jacket/star team builder level as soon as possible. And some are working very CLEARLY and DIRECTLY to move into directorship or to earn a free car. However you might not be sure if that’s what you want. You know you want something, and you want to build a good customer base, but where do you start if you don’t know where you’re going?

The truth is, if you wait until you KNOW, you’ll always be waiting. You will never know 100% if you’re headed in the right direction, or if you’re doing the right things, or making the right decisions. But don’t let your lack of clarity hold you back and keep you from moving. See it as an opportunity to trust! You don’t have to know exactly what you want your business to look like in order to run a good business. Taking a single step, even a tentative one, will bring more growth than not doing anything. Making mistakes will bring you closer to better service, than not any service at all.

You know what else I’ve noticed? When you just start, more opportunities tend to come about. More options may open up. And more people will get to be served by you. You may even get more clarity.

The following third quarter stars are women to really admire. When I was looking at who they are and what I know about their business, what stuck out to me was that a lot of them weren’t 100% clear on what they wanted from their business, or clear on what they COULD do. But they did something. And along the way, experienced a win as a star consultant!!

Sam A- Wife to a military man, new mom, born & raised in a small town. Decided to take a risk and started meeting with people to bring in some extra income for her family. She even voiced to me one day that thinking of a big huge future goal overwhelmed her. So she thinks one month at a time and does what she can today. Now it’s exciting to finish a goal at the last minute, but Sam walked through this finish line. She quietly finished the week before the deadline, working her business at her pace and accomplishing her second star quarter along the way!

Stacey A- A busy mom of 2 high school students. Very involved in her community and at church, a busy bee! Two weeks before the star deadline she was over 1,000 away. She started with a sale for her customers and then connected with some gals in-person and worked to the LAST minute. Really, right until midnight. Stacey is on-target to be an ALL STAR!!

Hannah B- Newly married, dental hygienist who works almost an hour away from her home. Walks with her mom and 2 dogs daily at 5:30am! When she was afraid of the first step, she voiced it, reached out, trusted, and took the first step anyway. She started her business as a star and she had the highest selling debut party in the history of our unit!!!

Barb C- An incredible friend to the whole town of McConnelsville it seems, a sister to our fabulous unit member Pam, and a leader at her church. Has worked through Christmas, vacations, and a full time job. When she doubted, she picked up the phone anyway. When she was unsure, she booked anyway. When she didn’t know, she trusted anyway. More opportunities have come. Barb is working to become a director by July 1!!

Sarah L- This quarter I noticed that my sales per face was lower than my average and as the quarter came to a close, I was short of my star goal. It was so last minute, I didn’t have enough time left to notify my customers to have an online sale. Not exactly sure what I could do in 24 hrs, I decided the day before the deadline, to take a couple hours and contact EVERY single customer! I loved connecting with some past customers that I hadn’t talked to in a while, and I ended up selling over $600 that day to finish the goal.

Jamie M- Balancer of many jobs and many relationships!! She did NOT know what this business would look like for her. Not knowing what what would come of it, she still took a first step and her opening one week wonder sale was the highest our unit has ever had by hundreds! She didn’t stop after that. Jamie continued moving even though she didn’t know what she wanted out of this. More sales. More faces. Finished her star the very last day! Barb and I were cheering her one from Louisville that weekend!!

Kara V- A new wife, works part time, and as the consultant with the most longevity in our unit, her business has gone through lots of changes/seasons. When you face a big obstacle, how will you react? She does not have an “all or nothing” mindset like most. She keeps going, even when the goal is hazy and the end is unclear, and her heart might not be sure what it wants, but she just keeps moving in SOME direction. Kara never stopped serving her customers and very consistently finished her star. Plus she hates general dining and wants that all-star luncheon :)

Congratulations to the above consultants, I’m proud of you!! Thank you for your actions and efforts.

7 Steps To Creating A Great Cat Eye

The modern cat eye has been increasing in popularity with new vintage trends. I’m lovin it. Customers may ask how to apply this eyeliner technique and have no fear, this look is not reserved just for the steady-handed, makeup connoisseurs.

Confession: every time I watched Gossip Girl I found myself staring with jealousy at Blair Waldorf’s perfect but neutral cat eye look. It wasn’t over the top, but it was sophisticated. Then when I would arm myself with my liquid eyeliner and try it, it took 4-6 re-do’s to make sure each “tail” was even. Then after it was all done I was still unsure that I wanted to be seen in public.

Then comes the day of one of my dear friend’s wedding. She wants a cat eye. Yikes! No time for 4-6 do-overs. So I decided to start slowly with an eyeliner pencil and gradually filled it out with liquid eyeliner and eyeshadow. And viola! You recognize this beauty don’t you? Hey Kar.

Ok so let’s get started. Robert Jones has a great tutorial here on a simple, modern cat eye and I’ve captured some screen shots. Here are 7 steps to creating that gorgeous cat eye look — the first time!

1. Begin by lightening the eyelid with a white matte eyeshadow (Mary Kay’s White Lilly).

2. Then apply a shimmery white eyeshadow (Mary Kay’s Crystalline) just on the lid.

3. Take your Mary Kay Crease Brush and make an exact line with a mid-tone eyeshadow (Mary Kay’s Almond or Hazelnut) right where you want the crease to be. Blend slightly with your Mary Kay Eye Color Brush.

4. Time to start the line. Grab an eyeliner pencil (Mary Kay’s Black Eyeliner). Remember to start thin on the inside, going thicker on the outside! For the “tail,” imagine a straight line (I hold up a brush from the base of my nose to the outside of my eye). The tail will subtly curve to follow that line.

5. Next go over the eyeliner with dark shadow (Mary Kay’s Coal or Espresso). The reason for doing this is to set you up nice for the liquid liner. MUCH easier to cleanup a mistake at this point than with a liquid. Note: the crazy white stuff underneath is a powder to catch any shadow that may fall.

6. Time for the liquid eyeliner (Mary Kay’s Black Liquid Eyeliner)! The liquid gives you a more dramatic line. Be sure to really fill in and even thicken that line, all the way to the lash line.

7. If you notice that the bare bottom lash line looks harsh in contrast to the more dramatic top line, soften the harshness by applying the mid-tone eyeshadow color, just a bit on the outside only.

Finish with a soft or neutral lip color (I love Mary Kay’s Au Natural) to make this cat eye more modern. Applying concealer to the lips first really neutralizes them.

Ohhh girl I bet you be lookin good right about now. But classy of course.

This was one of my first recognition outings as a new consultant, and it too followed my first Career Conference that blew my face off as I saw women retire their husbands early, buy houses, and pay for their kids’ college, all through their MK business. Until then I still thought this was something only for little girl play money. I want to celebrate you as a star! This past post has some great ideas for finishing your star.
